The history of Minecraft begins with its creator, Markus "Notch" Persson, who started working on the game in May 2009. The initial version of Minecraft was a project he worked on during his free time. Notch was inspired by games like Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper, and Infiniminer, which involved elements of exploration and building.
